The technique of shaving the surface of a tree and putting shells and trees of different colors on it to express a picture or pattern is called "inlay".
It is a work of "Yume Kobo" in Iwate Prefecture, Tohoku, which has developed the traditional Japanese decoration method into a unique technique.
This is a pair of ebony chopsticks with beautiful pearl layers of shells traced to the Japanese motif and all four of them fitted together.
You can enjoy the beautiful contrast between smooth lacquer-black wooden skin and shellfish.
